The wife went through here Celebrity binders... pulled out some cards that don't really fit what she's going after. I've got most of them up now as BIN, let me know if you're interested in any off eBay. I've got about 10 more to get up tomorrow as well.

Mainly the trouble is that I found out my company is not paying me (despite being a salaried worker) for this week or more we'll be off of work. Couldn't be happening at a worse time since rent is due next week.

All offers will be considered. Please be reasonable. Even if it's just one or two cards, anything will help. Trade Post! I'm ALIVE!!!!

Looks like the worst of the storm has cleared, and here in Mobile that didn't mean much. We never lost power, and from what we could tell we were never really in any real danger... now my work just needs to re-open so I can start making some money. Being the sole income for now, it is going to really hurt to be without some income for possibly up to a week and a half.

Anyways, I got some cards in over the weekend and I figured it was about time to show them off... first up, yesterday I got a package from Matt over at DocHoloday.com. Somehow an errant postage sticker got stuck to the envelope and this one made it's way to Massachusetts before getting to me here in Alabama... some Platinum needs!

Next up, a deal with BA Benny. You may remember a while back, Mike sent me the last relic I needed for my 2011 Gypsy Queen mini-relic set, a Thurmon Munson bat relic. Well, for the longest time these cards just weren't popping up on eBay or COMC and when they did they were going for $60-80 each. Well, Mike graciously traded me his copy. Low and behold a few weeks ago I found one on COMC for $18 and I quickly snatched it up and pegged it for a return to Mike. Here's what he sent me in return:

Mike, I am waiting on a couple cards from Matt to include in your package and then the Munson will be on it's way back into your collection. Thanks bud! (Even if you included a Carlos Lee card).

Finally, we have one of the most epic trades I've ever put together... 8 of my "hits" consisting of (5) autos, 1 dual relic, 1 single relic and a manu-relic were sent to Scott over at Sports Cards Ate My Brain after I claimed pretty much every Bagwell, Berkman and Biggio card in his NL Trade Bait Page! First up, the serial numbered, inserts and RC's cards he sent my way:

May be quiet for a few days...

Looks like we're going to be on the "dirty" side of the storm here in Mobile. We are not evacuating, but we may lose power, so this blog may be going quiet for a few days.

Birthday Money Arrives!

I got in some birthday cash from relatives... so last night we headed over to the LCS after work and I got a box of Chrome. I also went to Target and got a blaster & rack pack of Platinum...

Here are the highlights:

 I managed to pull an auto out of the rack pack, is Mahtook any good? It's the blue level refractor /199 as well... not too shabby!

Yes, I now have 2 Eric Hosmer die cuts... I got some good names on my numbered parallels as well. Matt Moore RC base auto for one auto and the other is a guy I've never heard of and will most likely be in the Astros bullpen in a few years (we love our washed up relievers).

I REALLY like the parallel refractors and I would go nuts if I got one of those hot boxes were all the cards are at least base refractors. If I had tons of money, I would try and put together a sepia set as well, those cards look AWESOME. Have a great day everyone!

I did get some cards for my birthday today... 3 packs from a co-worker who knows I collect and the Hotwit made me get a couple of blasters of Chrome as we had to stop at Target after dinner tonight. Nothing exciting, although I did get one die cut, it was pretty awesome... Eric Hosmer. The die cuts in Chrome are SICK.

We are anxiously awaiting the release of these... if anyone is collecting them, please let me know if you're seeing them in any of your stores, they aren't at any of the retail stores around here. I want the Oilers one SOOOO bad!!!

It's been a while...

No, it hasn't been a while since I've posted... it's been a while since I've given anything away. I figured since today is my birthday, I'll see how many of you really read this drivel. Leave a comment wishing your favorite Dimwit (really, I can't imagine anyone else willingly going by this title, so I must be your favorite by default) a happy birthday or a crappy horrible birthday, doesn't really matter which...

Card of the Day - 2012 Gypsy Queen - Nolan Ryan - Retail Gold Paralall

Back to the "Card of the Day" theme... here's one of my favorites so far from this year:

There have been many detractors of the 2012 GQ design, but I'm still a big fan. Especially on the retail parallels and for all the bordered cards. I really love the photo they used on this year's set for Nolan. The scan doesn't do the foil embossing justice but it's a sweet lookin' card in person. That retro Astros uniform is just awesome, the stirrups and the Starred-H logo on the hat just take me back to being a kid and watching him pitch in the Dome.

I did not intentionally leave this one to the end... this box has been posted in the exact order I busted the packs... so here you go...

Kennedy and Hosmer were duplicates. Overall, not too shabby on this pack, a relic/auto and an extra card to boot. Joe Panik, not a bad card to pull. I got an auto of his from Sterling last year and sold it for a nice chunk of change. It's a nice looking card. I just wish, since many of the autos in this set were on card, that Topps would go through just a bit more effort and get on-card for these as well. Anyways, I'm pretty happy with the box as a hole.

A Lonely Hanger Pack

So we went to Target for groceries and there was a single hanger rack pack of Bowman Platinum... it was calling out to me... I had to get it right? Well, here's the good stuff!

The Cano and Mauer are gold parallel, the Pineda is emerald. The bottom row are the retail exclusive purple parallel three pack you get in a rack pack.

Trades, purchases, breaks and just because!

I got packages this week, and after sorting them all out I've added some great cards to my collection! Plus I bought a card to help replace a card that a fellow blogger magnanimously traded to me out of his own collection at a ridiculously low price... anyways, we'll start with COMC:

Ok, so these are all "set-completion" cards. The first two finish off SP Authentic 2007 for me. The Marx finishes off 2011 Goodwin Champions base/SP set (I still need inserts!!!). The Gypsy Queens fill in some holes, I need more though, need list on the right sidebar!! Finally I have a GQ Auto and a couple of mini's. I still have 9 GQ REGULAR BACK mini's from last year's set that I need. Please, if you have any sitting around, please take a look and see if you can help. I will trade VERY generously for any of these 9!!!!

The last card in the COMC package was this beauty! BA Benny basically announced his return to the blog-o-sphere during our trade negotiations over this card. It was the last one I was chasing for my mini relic set and he graciously traded it to me knowing I needed it. Anyways, most of the time these were going in the $60 to $80 range on eBay as Munson, Ruth and Gehrig were the C Group of relics from GQ and were very hard pulls. The price apparently is starting to go down as there is one on e-bay with a BIN of $27.50. Anyways, I picked this one up for less than the cost of a blaster and hope to trade it back to BA Benny if he still wants it.

Next up, I have a trade with The Diamond King... he apparently has a pipeline for ridiculously awesome Astros cards... I owe him something for this trade, I just have to find something that fits in his wants!

A bunch of great Bagwells but the key part of this deal is the following:

An AWESOME Berkman dual relic with a piece of patch! Thanks Kevin!!!!

Next up is group break loot from Kyle over at Jabo's... another great group break by Kyle and I got a very nice Jeff Kent relic from Pristine. That's an awesome looking set, I may have to do a box in one of my breaks (I know I say that a lot!).

Finally got a deckle edge Morgan too!

Finally, Martyn over at Cards Beyond Oceans sent over an awesome "Just because" package... because he's awesome! He got the Astros in a group break and ended up with the great card below! He also sent a relic of "The Player Who Shall Not Be Named - and is currently a Marlin" that will go in my For Trade list... but the Paredes auto is AWESOME!!!!

They have moved him to the outfield after he struggled at 3B this year in hopes of finding a place for him on the ML roster next year. He's got tons of potential, just got to find a position for him since it doesn't look like Altuve is going to budge from 2B any time soon!

As for my beloved Astros, we fired half the coaching staff last night in what I thought was a rather un-professional manner. The players found out via Twitter apparently. In my opinion you hold a team-only meeting after the game and explain what's going on. Not wait until everyone has left the ball park and send out word through the media that Mills and Co. have been fired. Anyways, the interim manager will have limited, if any, success at changing the losing ways this year. We're rebuilding and part of that is a lot of pain involved with watching young players struggle and Jordan Lyles give up 9 runs in an inning. It will get better, but I'm not thinking "competitive" is going to be a goal for another 5 years as the move to the AL is only going to make the rebuilding more challenging. Bud Selig: SCREW YOU, I hate you and will always hate you, there is no redeeming quality about you. You've treated Houston like a red-headed step child for years and many of us Houston fans feel towards you like a step-child might feel towards an abusive step-father. You're an idiot, you wield too much power and you used leverage against Crane in the sale to force this upon not only him as an owner, but on us as fans. I could care less about our "rivalry" with the Rangers. I am going to greatly miss our actual rivalry with the Cubs, Cardinals, Braves, Dodgers, and Mets that we've had through the past 50 years. I'm rambling and angry, I probably should go eat some breakfast.

Another day, another pack... only 3 packs left after today... makes you happy, doesn't it? ;)

A very nice Machado refractor! The Jimenez is the only duplicate. Taijuan Walker is starting to card stalk me, the more cards of his I pull, the more certain he is to be a bust of a prospect. Let's hope this doesn't happen and I end up with some awesome cards of the next HOF pitcher for the Mariners... I can dream.

2012 UD Goodwin Champions Review

The latest edition of Upper Deck's Goodwin Champions set released yesterday. I got released from work a 9am this morning because a traffic accident took out a telephone poll and knocked out our electricity, phones and internet. So... I went to the card shop. I really got to stop being allowed off work early, it always ends up with a trip to the LCS. The wife went along in a feeble attempt to control my spending...

So, since my birthday is upcoming... and I look for any excuse I can, I grabbed three hobby boxes. Overall, not a bad value at $75 each with a chance to pull some epically great cards. Let's see the highlights. First, we'll start with all the mini's!!!!

Bo Jackson doing archery? Awesome. Hulk Hogan being Hulk Hogan? Awesome. Troy Aikman? Not awesome. Warren Moon with the 1970's era afro? Count me as a huge fan of this card! 

The final two base mini's, then the two foil board and the 6 green parallel. The two foil boards are both in the first 150 of the set so they have a print run of just /99 even though they aren't stamped.

Am I going to post any base cards? No, not so much, you can find pictures of those easily enough everywhere else, and let's face it you really just come here to see what sick hits I pull. We'll see how sick this gets, good or bad... (Note: these boxes I am posting are in the exact order I opened them)...

1st Box

Ok, so you get two Military Machines cards in each box... AWESOME... love this insert set and I want to build the set! USS Arizona and a F9 Panther, sweeeeet!
As for the hits...

1. Who the hell is Rickey Carmichael and why should I want his autograph? Meh. 
2. Dale Hawerchuk... took my three attempts to type his last name. I don't watch NHL, so I have no clue who this guys is. 
3. Doug Flutie on drums.... hmmm... 

UD, maybe it's time we cut back on the check list of relics a bit. Just sayin', I'd rather get one quality relic in a box than two of this junk... bitter after the first box... yea, pretty much... onward!

2nd Box

USS Indianapolis... my hatred for the Colts implores me to dislike this card, but I can't. Battleships Cruisers are awesome. And I've always wanted a tank...
As for the hits:

1. At least I've got a baseball player's auto here. Hold please, googling... drafted in 2009, still in A ball. Why is he in this set? Phillies collectors, you want to trade for this card, right?
2. Tim Howard... awesome relic, can actually find pictures of him online with this color/style jersey on.... can't complain too much about this one.
3. Wendel Clark - see note on Dale Hawerchuk, don't know this guy... is he good? Great? HOF material? Or scrub? The world will never know.

So a step up in that box... let's see what we have next...

3rd Box

F4U Corsair, sweet lookin' plane and we have an aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown which sank in the Battle of Midway. I need all 20 of these cards... only 14 left for the complete set... this is going to be tough to put together, I have a feeling at only 2 per box.
As for the hits:

1. Jackie Stiles.... 3rd rate basketball player... and in the women's game at that. Thanks UD. Thanks. BUT IT'S ON CARD!!! :|
2. John Elway? Yes, more please. This is caliber of star that I expect out of "champions" sets. I'm sure Stiles and Carmichael were "champions" of something at some point in their lives, but Elway was AWESOME. 
3. Jim Kelly makes an appearance! Honestly, I'd rather have a relic of that shirt Jim's wearing in the picture on the card. That thing is EPIC! How awesome is that??? 

But wait, there's more. Somehow I stumbled upon a miracle in the 3rd box... it was loaded with a couple extra goodies... first, a mini printing plate:

WHAT?!?!?!?!? How awesome is that? The one billiards player that probably 90% of guys have actually heard of, and a printing plate to boot!!!! Awesome!!!

Next up, this one threw me for a loop, I was caught totally off guard, keep in mind, this came out of a 2012 box of Goodwin:

Um guys... that card says 2011 Goodwin Champions... I have multiple visual verifications that I pulled this out of a pack directly from a box of 2012... I was confused. I quickly went to Sports Card Radio's product review of the set, because if there was any explanation available, I figured it'd be there. That's when I found this:

I don't know what this means. Were these cards just late getting autographed last year and no redemptions made, so they threw them in this year's set? I don't know, but I do know at 1:5,036 packs, I'm pretty damned lucky to have pulled one. First one sold "Buy It Now" for $110, there is one at auction now. I may see how that one goes and then post this one on eBay. I don't know hockey, so I have no clue how good this guy is and I'm too lazy today to try and figure it out right now.

So yea, I got extremely lucky with that last box, two HOF football players' relics, plus two bonus "hits".

I'm a fan of Goodwin Champions. It's unique and fun, despite the relic checklist being about twice as long as it needs to be. The base cards look great and every once in a while lightning strikes. I really want one of the Civil War flag cards as well. How sweeeeet is that card?

Redemptions... boo... but I guess Derek was unable to sign for some reason... I figured out he's an Athletic and has spent some time in the show this year. Not bad I guess. If no one trades for it soon, I'll go ahead and redeem it myself and it'll go in the ol' trade bait folder. The Kinsler and Price are dups.

So, this month my LCS BigHitSportsCards over in Spanish Fort is giving away a pretty awesome bat. It's got a small plaque on it speaking to the awesome no-hitting powers of those who have signed it: Nolan Ryan, Bob Feller and Sandy Koufax!!!!! To get in on this prize, you have to buy hobby boxes. I had a bit of extra cash so I bought three of the cheapest hobby boxes they had in stock to get my three tickets in the raffle!!!! So here are the highlights of my purchases...

 The Victor Martinez /25 is AWESOME! Who the heck is Rabelo? Could have gotten a better subject for the Awesome Artifacts /45 but I can't complain about a case hit (or thereabouts) right? Ryan Chruch? Meh... and Felix, it'd be great if I had a steady Mariner's trade partner... lol... I've got a backlog of Mariners stuff if there is anyone out there with Astros stuff to spare!!!! I have an uncanny ability lately to pull Prince Fielder cards as well... ridiculous...

Ok, so I'm a sucker and bought a few hobby packs of Platinum as well. Cruz is ruby.  Shields, Rosario and Verlander are gold and then Wheeler at the bottom is a /399 numbered emerald refractor! No hits from my 6 packs that I bought but it's all good.

Trades and such... I'm a moron, apparently...

On our recent trip to Atlanta, I picked up a blaster of Bowman Platinum because I'm a moron...

These are the highlights... and wow, a NICE die cut Bryce Harper! SWEET! The Lester is now my second parallel (Emerald and Gold). 

Next up, see if you can tell the difference between two cards:

One of these represents my loot from a $0.99 eBay single box break... one is my loot from a $17.50 6 box break from eBay... I watched both breaks live, and out of each I got one card... and a duplicate at that... yuck... I was really hoping for some hits out of the 6 box break, but alas I was shut out.

Pack #9 - Bowman Platinum

August Group Break Sign-Ups Are CLOSED!!!

Here'st he format: $17 for a two team slot, one your choice, one random. I'll be busting three boxes... First up, 2007 UD Artifacts:

Three hits and I think we all know that Artifacts has a great mix of old and current players as well as some unique hits as well!

Second box will be a 2012 Topps Series 2 Jumbo HTA hobby box:

Three hits here as well! We'll get a full set out of this box so everyone is guaranteed a team set out of this one plus lots of inserts!

Finally, the "highlight" box in my opinion:

This product goes live today! We'll bust one master box of Topps Finest 2012 and that will guarantee us at least 2 hits, but plenty of chances at additional inserts and crazy hits as well. There are also hot boxes, 1 in every 4 cases where all cards are refractors.

As always, the team listed on the front of the card as well as the matching logo (if any) on the back will determine who the card goes to on single player cards. Multi-player cards will be randomly assigned amongst the teams on the card. Any cards representing teams that have moved will go to the team as it currently exists today (Expos cards go to Washington Nationals, etc.). Any HITS with multiple teams will have the randomizations done via video, and if that card involves a player from a team in my slot, then I'll have an un-biased 3rd party do the randomization.

COMMENT TO CLAIM A TEAM. The only means of claiming a slot is by leaving a comment ON THIS POST for all to see. Time stamp will determine who gets the slot if multiple people claim the same team, first to post gets that slot. Once 15 slots are full, I'll randomize the second team. Pack #8

Another day, another pack of platinum... let's see what was found in this pack!

All four base cards are dups! How did that happen? The Peralta is an x-fractor or whatever the hell they are calling it these days... looks cool scanned though, eh?

Group break sign-ups to be posted at some point today... slight change though, not going to be 17 hits, as I changed my mind on one product at the last moment after pouring over the checklist and put in a better quality checklist of possibilities.

Pack #7

I'm going to have another post tonight with some over-due trade updates and a couple of purchases... but for now, you get another pack from my Bowman Platinum box... which I totally miscalculated in all previous posts as there are 20 packs in this box, not 24... I'm special, I know...

I seem to have great luck pulling Giants inserts, hits and parallels of late... the Sandoval is the rarer Ruby colored parallel and is much more impressive than the scan would give credit for... The Pomeranz is a dupe! The Bowman Prospect cards are nice and all, but even with all the packs I've opened I still only have 19 of the 100 card set, talk about a pain to put the insert set together...

I'm waiting on a pricing e-mail from Atlanta Sports Cards... so stay tuned for a group break sign-up announcement! Should be around $15 for two teams again... and we're looking at a potential 17 hits out of this one!

Pack #6 of Platinum... 1/4 of the way through the box!

We made it to and from Atlanta with no problems, but boy what a boring drive. 2 lane highway and a bunch of trees! Anyways, the Astros won the game we went to and I'll have some photos from the pre-game tour and game to post later... until then, enjoy another pack!

The Konerko base is the only duplicate. This pack contains my numbered parallel from the box, a very nice looking /50 Dylan Bundy Gold parallel! These have been going for about $20-25 on eBay so not too shabby a pick up!
