A Couple of Trade Posts

I got a couple of packages in today with some trades I made on FB. I've gotten onto a couple of pages there trying to drum up more trade action and it's worked.
The first Clowney is /25 while the Dirty Laundry swatch is just 06/10! Not too shabby! I don't collect much in terms of football but now and then I grab some to make a deal work. Below, I got my first Yuli auto! I'm excited to see what Yuli does in his first full year on the squad. Tyler didn't make the team out of spring, but lets face it there wasn't much room on that roster after the free agent signings and trades in the off season. I see Tyler having a solid year at AAA and pushing managements hand to either trade him or make room on the ML roster.

Have a great day everyone!

LCS Pick-Ups

Last Sunday, I went to the LCS in Colorado Springs and picked up some loose packs and a box of Bowman's Best... here's the loot I came out with... not bad...
As always, let me know if you would like a trade! All available!

Celebrity Cuts and Panini Americana

So, I got the Hotwit some boxes on my DACardworld order the other day... As I mentioned, the box of Celebrity Cuts was a dud (for her... more on that later). But I also picked up a 10 box lot of 2012 Panini Americana as well. Here are 8 of the hits from those blaster boxes (I'm too lazy to scan the other 2...)...
Always cool to get the dual relics and there are quite a few impressive names included in these relics!

Ok, so I am going to say now that I made out like a bandit (you'll see what I did there in a sec) with the Celebrity Cuts box that she got... behold, both /100:
Jackie Robinson! Wow! Great looking card! Always cool to get a Burt Reynolds card! But overall, this didn't quite pack the punch of Hollywood relics or autos that we were hoping for! I still feel Celebrity Cuts is overpriced, even at the sale price of $99. Love that Jackie though!

Another Box of Prime Cuts

Well, DACardworld had a big sale for St. Patrick's Day and the hotwit and I splurged. I got her some Americana and a box of Celebrity Cuts (which was a dud). Here's the video break:
Hope you enjoyed! I've got some posting to do this week. Hopefully I can get a round to it soon!

The Dimwit Mancave

I thought I'd give you all a tour of the mancave... so admire as you will... some of it's a mess but that's mainly the card sorting desk! I'm running out of room in my displays and on my desk!
Hope everyone enjoys!

I'm really trying to drum up some online trading... if you have a team or player you collect and have some Astros stuff available, just let me know!

Archives Trade Bait anyone?

So, in catching up over the past months since I disappeared... I have TONS of trade bait...

Here's a nice selection of bait from a few boxes of Archives that I opened.
The Baerga is 21/59, Vizquel is 19/21, the Griffey is 33/47, the Olerud is 04/29, the Edgar is 5/25 and the foster is 8/20.

So, if anyone is interested, let's make a deal!

If you have any specific team or players wants, just let me know, I'll be glad to post what I have available. I have a few football and basketball hits as well that I've managed to come across - as well as a bunch of Olympics, Dinosaurs and other random stuff!

A Tale of Two Boxes

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... It was a box of Prime Cuts from the ultra hot LCS known as BigHit Sportscards in Spanish Fort, AL, it was a box of Prime Cuts from a mediocre shop known as Dalez in Colorado Springs, CO.

Dalez is a shop that if you want something, they probably have it. Magic, basketball, hockey, football, junk wax to high end, they have every last bit of it. I had to go this morning and get some binders, pages and plastic card stands. The Hotwit convinced me to get some cards. So I got her a box (for a later post) of Goodwin Champions and grabbed me a box of Prime Cuts. Let's see if I can get this video to load and post correctly:
For those who don't want to listen to my disappointment, here's the pics:

I will never be a Braun fan. Perez and Goldschmidt are good relics for sure. Hopefully Jonathan Gray starts producing there in Colorado. The Rizzuto, I'm a little concerned about. That's a modern jersey, is this from an old-timers game? It sure isn't from his playing days...

So, my other "issue" with Dalez is that while they have lots of stuff, no one knows the product. When I mentioned how I've been on a run with this product, the guy behind the counter said "Yea, it's really popular every year." He sounded like he believed what he's saying. Now for those who don't know, this product hasn't been released since 2012. So, Dalez let's work on knowing the product a little more. Also, they have no desire to see what you pull, they don't get excited and they make no attempt to get you to open in the store. It's basically a Wal-mart version of a card shop without the low prices. Come in, get what you want and move along so the next person can spend some money. At least that's the way it feels. Other CS residents can chime in with their agreement or not.

So, onward to the box from BigHits... this once again is what I consider the greatest shop in the country. Here's the first 4 cards:
So now I've got the 1/1 Waldrup and the /49... should I just go for the rainbow? Shouldn't be too expensive... Kiner and Brock are quality relics as well! Can't complain about the Diaz/Piscotty - however is seems like Mr. Piscotty has more cards coming out than anyone else I see these days, if this guy turns out to be great then there'll be plenty of cards for the Cardinal fans to hoard!

So, obviously there is a missing card, a missing autograph from the scan... so here you go... I'll leave this without further comment...

Guess It's Time for a Giveaway!

Well, the contest has run its course and it's time to give away some cards... so without further ado, I put all the contestants into the old random.org list randomization machine... and here's the results after 6 trips through the machine (there are 6 letters in dimwit, yes, that's my logic, shut it):
Congrats to our friend gcrl... a great Dodgers blog, even when the Dodgers aren't great... haha, I made a funny...

Have a great night folks! Mr. GCRL, send me an e-mail with your mailing info and I'll get something in the mail this week!

Group Break Loot

I got in cheap on a group break of Prime Cuts, the Astros slots are kind of a double edge sword as they are cheap but they are cheap because there isn't a massive checklist depth to their slot. But, I did really well on this one:
With Roger only playing 2 seasons with the Astros, it's fun to pick up a card with him in the red brick Astros jersey. And I do believe this is a swatch from his playing days as an Astro as well, with the black pin stripe being the main jersey during his time with us. Those two years were amazing, and I still feel Roger is a HOF'er despite all the rumors, accusations and trials. Much like Bonds, even if he did do something, he didn't HAVE to... he was already one of the most dominant in the game. That whole era is crazy looking back on it now.

Well isn't this a thing of beauty?
I never thought I'd say this, but I'll take this triple relic auto over a Triple Threads BLING-BLING-super-shiny-over-priced-foilboard-super-mojo boring redundant card. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of Triple Threads Biggio (and others) that I treasure, but this is a much better design, concept and execution. There's actually a theme to these cards. The back text actually says something worthwhile instead of "You have received a Triple Auto Relic Mojo Hit From Topps Triple Threads". Yes, you dingbats, I know what I just pulled, I don't need a reminder of it on the back of the card for all eternity. Tell me something about the player or give me stats, like on this card, I learn that Biggio joined Tris Speaker, Paul Molitor and Ty Cobb as the only players to tally 3,000 hits, 600 doubles and 400 stolen bases. Did I already know that Biggio hit that milestone? Of course I did. Did I know he was one of only 4 players ever to do it and who those players were? Nope. Great job Panini.

With that rant complete, I'm off to work!

COMC and a Contest

So I got a shipment in from COMC and now it is time for you to do exactly that... check out my cards...
You just THOUGHT this would be a post with no prime cuts! Ha! Think again! A trio of amazing Astros! Biggio, Correa and Nolan. Beautiful cards, and yes Nolan is from 2012, not 2016.
Next up is Billy Wagner auto and a Altuve framed relic! The Altuve is THICK. Love the Wags auto, not enough of him on cardboard/acetate these days.
I may just have to nominate this one for card of the year or something. Perfect coloring, patch and picture of Evan! Sometimes Topps does alright on design.
Here we have an interesting piece from the Topps Vault, you can't see it really well but that's Jeff Bagwell from a HOU vs LA game. It's unique and I liked it, so I grabbed it.
And who are these two amazing ladies? Well, they represent 2 of the 3 Gypsy Queen TAROT card back cards I need to complete my set. Only need unlucky #13. So go dust off your 2011 GQ and let me know if you have Tarot Card #13 Gypsy Queen.

Not a bad haul at all. Well, at this point, you're thinking "Hey Dimwit, you said in the title that there was a contest and you can't sign off now." Well, you're right, I did and I won't.

I've been taking a look at the old blog stats and seeing a definite decline (as expected) in readership. So, as a means of increasing readership and shamelessly getting my blog title back out there I will run a little contest. To reward those of you readers who also blog, this will require a blog post and a plug. So, do a post, plug my blog or this post in some way with a link. Comment on this post with a link to your post and the team/player you collect, and you're entered in the contest. I'll run this through Sunday night. Hopefully this brings me some blogs that I don't know are out there, and maybe introduces me to some readers who don't know I'm blogging. What will you win? Well, you'll get at least one autograph or relic card from your preferred team (if I have one, which I'm sure I do) and a small package of cards that relate to your collection.

Alright, that was long winded enough. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Another Shipment of Prime Cuts...

Yea, I have a problem with this product. Or as the hotwit says, "You really need to stop..." But onward I go towards amazing mojo!

First up, an assortment of vertical relics, autos and auto/relics.
So obviously there are some rather impressive cards here... first of all, Nolan is always awesome, but even cooler next to that Maddux. Mazara, even though he's a Ranger, is a nice pull. This is my second Strawberry /49. Can't complain about Brett relics or Mattingly auto /15 either! The Michael Reed has a couple of stellar patches. I'm sure I won't have a problem finding a home for that Molina either!

Onward to an even better smattering of cards... smattering, I like it...
Again, how about that Nolan Ryan?!?!!? /25 and a bright orange swatch! I LOVE IT... Red Schoendienst, again won't have a hard time finding a home for him either. The Biggio was a $0.99 eBay pick up! Urias should be a good auto to hold on to for a bit, unless someone just really wants to make me a trade for it... (Looking at you Dodger fans). At this point, Urias may be the only one on this picture who isn't going into the HOF; and even then he may end up there if he's as good as promised.

Finally, the two big cards from this shipment... oh my, hold on to your britches...
Holy swatches Batman! 6/10 Park/Sano relic is mighty awesome in an of itself. But throw in that BEAUTIFUL Ted William 3/5 quad relic? Wow, not too shabby. That Williams is going to look splendid next to the Gehrig. (See what I did there?).

This won't be the last you see of Prime Cuts on this blog. It has hereby taken the place of Triple Threads in my "Most Joyful Box Opening Experience" category. Love this stuff. Love the old timers, mixed with the new kids, mixed with the modern HOF'ers & fan favorites. I could go on and on. You all have a great night. Anything not Astros or Nolan is for trade. Even the Williams and Gehrig for the right price... haha.... but seriously, you're not getting the Gehrig.

A New 1/1 To the Collection

Dallas Kuechel had a great year two seasons ago, won the Cy Young award and led our young Astros into the playoffs and in the process knocked out the Yankees. We couldn't quite beat the Royals, but it was a tease of how good this team can be. He had an off year last year but hopefully the extra rest this off-season will have him bounce back this year. We're going to need him at his best to compete this year for a WS title.

I was able to find this awesome 1/1 laundry tag on eBay for less than $35. I snatched it up quick.
Yes, that's a working QR code and if you scan it, it comes up with the details of Dallas' jersey or pants sizing. Pretty cool and unique. Another great job of Panini design being on point. Very glad to add this true 1/1 to the permanent collection!

Have a great Monday!

Random Pick Ups

So, figured I needed to do a post about a few random pick-ups I've made lately to add to the collection. So, no better place to start than with an awesome BOOK!
What?!??! A sick Correa book /99?!?!? This is first of two cards I picked up with the proceeds of selling the Schwarber/Contreras book card from Prime Cuts. The other is a 1/1 and will hopefully be in the mailbox tomorrow! What a huge bat piece...
I used to be the first one beating the drum that Panini couldn't make it without a license. Well, consider me wrong and my opinion changed. Products like National Treasures and Prime Cuts are doing well, and the cards are high quality.

Next up, some Bagwell, Bregman and Biggio:
Picked up this Bagwell auto/relic due to loving the Auto Biography cards from Prime Cuts. The seller threw in the Bregman RC for free! Score!
So this Bagwell and the below BEAUTIFUL Biggio plate were bought with proceeds from selling/trading a Bo Jackson /5 auto from Tribute. I would say I did pretty well. The Bagwell was the trade portion, the Biggio was bought with the sell portion of the deal!
Well, that wraps it up for tonight! #collect
