Well, it is done... The Dimwit has ensured there will be no half-wits... appropriate surgical measures were taken yesterday to make sure that there will be no happy little accidents in the Dimwit-Hotwit household... and oh what a relief it is. Wasn't as bad as the Dimwit had feared and now it's just recuperation time.
As for the house, we've only got the painting to be completed at this point. Then we'll get it de-junked by getting a storage room, get a maid service to come clean it floor to ceiling and then we'll be good to go. Hopefully this house doesn't stay on the market for more than a month and a half (so first time home buyers can take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit!). Mid-March the Hotwit and Dimwit will be in Utah for 4 days to volunteer at our (hopefully) future employers.
All is well here... couldn't be happier!!!!!!!

Tuesday Rant...
For any of those who the Dimwit may offend by this, he apologizes in advance. However, there is a growing frustration within the Dimwit that must be released. In the grand scheme of life, we humans have come up with the term "religion". And inconsidering all the world's religions, when it really comes down to it, a religion is basically an opinion shared amongst a group of like minded people. Up to this point, the Dimwit has no problem with religion. It's when those like minded people (of whichever creed) decide that it is their duty to inform everyone else they are wrong, bad, horrible people for not conforming to said like-minded group.
The Dimwit was recently, and will encounter it again Thursday, verbally attacked by several such people on a public sidewalk and was left very offended. Let the Dimwit say now that he wont be sharing his own opinions here, this is not the forum for such a discussion. He'll also not divulge the group he was accosted by, but he does find it interesting the arguements that were thrown at him at such a rapid fire. The Dimwit does not look forward to facing this same group of people again, but some things just have to be done, and the Dimwit will not be intimidated by the close-minded like-minded people out there. Each religion believes it has the right path, each religion believes the other religions are going to suffer for not being of the same opinion. The Dimwit has seen enough behavior that is incongruent with the words flowing out of the mouths of these groups' believers. So why isn't a simple "Sorry, not interested" a sufficient response? Each person has their choice to make... each person will answer for his choice (depending on their opinion of the afterlife)... why can't people just accept that there are those who are not of the same opinion? The Dimwit has no desire to convince anyone to have the same opinion he has, and is really tired of hearing others try to convince him of theirs.
Alright, done ranting... we'll see how things go on Thursday...

Craziness in the Dimwit House
Alright everyone, it's going to be a stressful 6 weeks ahead. The Hotwit and Dimwit have many things to get done: have an A/C guy come check-up the A/C-Heating system, get an electrician to fix a couple outlets, get a painter to re-paint the outside of the house, re-paint the master bath, landscape the front walkway, put 2" blinds up in the kitchen, and re-seal the cover on the back deck. All this to get the house ready to be put on the market by mid-March so that potential buyers can take advantage of the first-time buyer's tax credit. Oh yea, we're getting married in June and we have to find jobs in Utah during this whole process. Taking on too much at once??? NO WAY! We're the Dimwit and Hotwit, we can do it all, no sweat. So, when you hear the scream coming from the general Houston area, that'll either be the Hotwit in murderous rage, or the Dimwit running for his life... or both... Hopefully in six months we'll be in Utah... married... and with some moo-lah left over to afford a nice 3/2/2 house out in the desert... It's going to be an interesting six months to say the least!!!!!

Moving right along...
Well, there have been some plans taking shape in the Dimwit/Hotwit household. Looks like we're going to be selling the house this summer and pulling up our Houston roots. The options have been narrowed down to Southern Utah and the panhandle of Florida (or wherever we can secure gainful employment). So we embark on a great adventure a month or two after we get married and see what life has in store... or at least that's the plan! Haha!

This is NOT a good sign...
http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/01/12/frum.washington.financial.capital/index.html
So we're consolidating businesses into the grand city of government eh? Sound familiar? Remind anyone of Moscow? Berlin? When all of our business are owned, at least in part, by the federal government, that same government is going to have the potential to rule with an iron fist. This was never a good idea, even the Dimwit knows that...

2009 - The Dimwit Reflects
Well here we are at the beginning of a new decade... and the Dimwit looks back at the year known as 2009.
He renewed a friendship with the Hotwit after 20 years. Subsequently fell head over heals for her. Went on a vacation to NYC with her and came back with a fiance and wedding plans. The past 11 months with her have been the 11 most exciting and amazing months of his life. The Dimwit has a new understanding of what the term "soulmate" means.
The job continues to go forward without relent. The Hotwit and Dimwit have started looking at a long-term plan of moving to Kanab, Utah (or some place like it) to work for Best Friends Animal Shelter. The big hurdle is getting financially ready for such a move. We'll see if it pans out.
The wedding plans are going great, we meet with the florist soon and that will be the last real "big" thing to secure. The rest is stuff we just need to buy. We've got to get the wedding party together to get tuxedos and dress fitted and ordered. Other than that, we're in pretty good shape. We were able to get the photographer we wanted as well.
2009 was the first year in many that no major tragedies struck the Dimwit's life, and for this he is grateful. The ebb and flow continues, things come and go, change happens whether we like it or not. The Dimwit choses to not dwell on the past, as it can't be changed, it is what it is and giving it too much weight is wasted time and emotion. Move forward and do what you can today to make tomorrow better.
There are no resolutions this year, but the Dimwit does hope to be a better blogger, and most especially he hopes to be the best possible husband to the Hotwit. June 26th can't get here soon enough!

Childfree and Happy
The Dimwit is going off on a tangent today. Seems that lately there's been people who seem to think that the Dimwit and Hotwit are horrible, bad, insane, liberal, etc, people because we have decided not to have children. Here's the deal: we don't want kids. Plain and simple. Our lives are too complicated at this point, so much so that we can't even get a dog, let alone have a family, even if we desired to do so. But the stark truth of it all is that we would very much rather have a dog than a mini-wit. On a recent Houston Chronicle blog, the Dimwit was accused of being gay, liberal and insane because of our choice. Look Breeders, we have no interest in joining your cult, we have no desire to exchange the next 20+ years of our life looking after another person, we'd rather spend our money on vacations, nice cars, a nice house, more vacations... you get my point. We're totally happy accepting that we are selfish and don't think it would be fair to a child to come into this world in our lives. We aren't bad people, we're honest with ourselves. Unlike the many thousands of couples out there who don't realize the same fact, have kids merely to satisfy societal expectations, to make themselves feel better, or to try and save their marriage. The Dimwit acknowledges there are other reasons to have a family, but there are SO many people who breed simply to breed, and that's just wrong. So, from here forward, if you tell the Dimwit that you're "sure you'll change your mind", the Dimwit will ask you "Really, do you want kids? Yes? You do? Well, I'm sure you'll change your mind. I don't want you to be happy either."
Those of us who don't want kids have every right in the world not to want to have them, just as much as those who want them have a right to have them.
Alright, the Dimwit rant of the month is over.
